Acne Prevention

Acne has long been one of the most chronic skin conditions plaguing the lives of millions of people of different walks of life, young and adult. It is believed that acne results from the action of hormones on the sebaceous glands of the skin, and there are some aggravators of this skin condition, hereditary being one.

Acne greatly affects the lives of its victims. It brings certain personal anguish to the patients and it even lowers the person’s self esteem. Recognizing this fact, it is then somehow necessary to know and understand some of the acne prevention guidelines that may help prevent and get rid of acne. In particular, one of the most often suggested acne prevention guidelines is to never pop up, squeeze or pick at the acne lesion. This acne prevention act is highly considered since it can spread the inflammatory process and may just worsen the condition.

Aside from that acne prevention suggestion, it is considered that washing the face tenderly with a mild soap or sulfur soap at least twice a day can help prevent the onset and spread of acne. Just don’t forget to pat your face dry and do not rub it with a towel. Another helpful acne prevention step to consider is to avoid the oil based products. Then, apply only those “noncomdomedogenic” skin products that do not clog pores. If possible, you should also try to avoid acne irritants like the airborne grease from the fast food restaurants, rubbing or friction from sporting equipments since they may also cause acne. Moreover, some of the experts considered the act of giving anti-acne products the time to clear up the lesions as one of the best acne prevention moves to take. Just note that this acne prevention move can mean a number of weeks or even months.

Some of the acne prevention specialists also suggest certain nonprescription topical medications for acne prevention. One of the acne prevention agents that are often used these days is the benzoyl peroxide. This acne prevention agent is actually the active ingredient in a number of the over-the-counter acne topical treatments. It is an antibacterial agent that is so effective for fighting the acne-causing bacteria. Then, there is the salicylic acid, another acne prevention agent that is believed to be potent for reducing the abnormal shedding of the skin cells along the hair follicle.

Some other acne prevention agents and products are there like the prescribed antibiotics that can help kill the acne bacteria. In particular, a prescribed acne prevention medicine called accutane is available for treating the severe and nodular acne. However, this acne prevention medicine is noted for several unfavorable side effects like birth defects, redness, dryness, and irritation, so it must be better to take it if nothing else works.
